1375TH MYTHS

The big news of the month is Major Hansen's promotion to Lt Col. He will be pinning on the silver leaves around June or July.

Many surprises have been popping up in the Navigation Section. PCS orders are coming in faster than TDY orders. As reported earlier, Capt Jurosky is leaving in June for Japan. Capt Luurtsma will depart Shortly for Washington D.C., and Capt Park is going to AFIT in June. Added to this list now are Captains Sanders and Thomas. Capt Sanders will be leaving in April for the cold wilds of Alaska and Capt Thomas is going to the hot, dry deserts of Lybia, North Africa in June. Dates for entering AFIT in September and January were also received for Captains Reed and Barrilleaux, respectively.

Needless to say, this has necessitated many changes in AST deployment. Capt Dearth, along with Capt Cox, Capt Sanders, and Sgts Bordelon and Smith deployed to AST-2 replacing Capt O'Neill, Lt Wilson, Maj Kott, Sgt Baker and Sgt Biythe. Capt Peckman, Lt Rice, Capt Stokes, Sgt Jones and Sgt Contos, replaced Capt Stewart, Lt Duckwitz, Capt Reed, Sgt Russell and Sgt Hader at AST-9. Capt Russell is going to replace Capt Sanders shortly^ Capt Jacobs returned from Lima just in time to have his wife, PhyIlls, greet him with a baby girl. Also returning for a meeting with the stork is Capt Burks from AST-5. He was replaced by Capt Miller. Capt Smith and Capt Hodgins also returned from AST-5 with their sick "Gooney Bird" and, pending reconstruction of the old C-47, will go back down to aid in the support of that project.

In addition to rotations, TDY, and PCS, there have been changes of assignment with the Wing. Maj Strong has gone to Wing as an AST Commander and Maj Rodriquez has been assigned to this squadron.

Sgt Ujhelyi completed the course at the MATS NCO Academy, in. Orlando and has returned to Turner.

3Lt Rice is now 1/Lt Rice, his promotion was effective 2 March.

Lt Kelly, Capt Burks, and Capt Kyle received Regular Commissions in ,the most recent Regular Augmentation.

One more item, and it's not shop talk; Sgt Barksdale's 7 year old daughter, Velma Doris, placed second in her age group at the recent Gasparella National Open Twirling Contest in Tampa, Florida. Velma Doris has been practicing with the baton since the fall of 1957. She started as a member of Silver Wings, the Base Baton Corps, and has been taking private lessons from Grace Leggett since August196l.
