We left Manila bound for North Danger reef, where there was a ground station and secondary Net Control to which I was assigned. We encountered a Typhoon and while Lieutenant Ciezynski was telling the Japanese Captain to turn back and the Japanese Captain was telling the Lieutenant that we should turn back (in Japanese) we hit such rough weather that we blew the shocks on the Helicopter and HAD to turn back.

When we finished the lines from North Danger and were to come back to Manila, we were told that the Helicopter was broken. We had a raft and an outboard engine and the pictures show how we got from the island to the lcm. The men on the raft are Ronald Luber (at the helm) and Hartley Jensen (standing). The raft name was Kon Leaky.
